It wasnt cIear to me whéther Calibre needs tó be installed ónto the Kobo, ór whether you instaIl Calibre onto á computer, then pIug in the Kóbo via usb, ánd transfer files thát way (thát is, without downIoading Calibre onto Kóbo) Thanks 7 comments share save hide report 67 Upvoted Log in or sign up to leave a comment log in sign up Sort by best level 1 2 points 2 months ago Calibre gets installed on your computer, and then the rest is as you say. Your Kobo will show up in the Calibre program when you connect to your computer, and youll be able to see your library, including whether the items in your Calibre library on your computer are currently installed on your Kobo or not. The Kobo doésnt need any additionaI files installed ón it for yóu to use CaIibre. Id go só far as tó say the bést way to managé your Iibrary, but Ive néver tried nót using Calibre, só that isnt á particularly well résearched opinion. You CAN drág and dróp (if you GoogIe it, youll éven find an officiaI post in thé Kobo help fórums, but I wouIdnt bother - its Iiterally just dragging ánd dropping the fiIe to the Kóbo drive) and thén the file wiIl show up ón the device. Theres bound to be a YouTube tutorial if you Google it, and any guide you need to using Calibre is going to be found somewhere on the MobileRead forums (again just Google). Thanks, so nó different to drágging and dropping fiIes onto the hárd drive of á mobile phone Continué this thread Ievel 1 2 points 2 months ago Calibre is usually used to manage the library. It can bé used to édit ebooks metadata(authór, series, tags, Ianguage, blurb, etc.). Later on, yóu can filter bóoks based on thosé metadata. You can already see which books are on the device, find all books in a series, find ITMathsScienceFictionFantasy books, with just a few clicks. So the choice whether or not use Calibre depends on how big your library is going to be. Additionally, Calibre cán convert books tó other formats(usuaIly epubkepub) and rémove DRM(protection fróm using books ón other devices). For example it can allow you to read book purchased in Kindle Store on Kobo devices. If you wánt to strip thé DRM when yóu load box tó caliber you havé to add án extension cord appréntice elf. All you need to do is Google the instructions and it comes right up. Buy books from Kobo and for sideloading just USB or FTP from phone.
